Let’s get real about cereal.
A nutritional comparison of Wonder Crunch and Nesquik Cereal.
It's no secret that not all foods are created equal, and this is definitely the case when it comes to breakfast cereal. You may have noticed a number of claims on boxes, ranging from sources of fibre, packed with vitamins, great for the brain and on the list goes.
The problem with these claims is that they can be confusing or lead you to focus on a small list of benefits, without seeing the full story of what's in the cereal you're about to put into your body. Like everything you buy, the challenge is sorting through the claims and finding products that deliver the best nutritional value for you and your family.
What’s the best way to choose a well rounded, healthy breakfast cereal?
Check the Nutritional Information Panel (NIP). You see, the truth is that labels can’t lie.
You may be familiar with NIPs, they’re usually found on the packaging and must be a true and accurate measurement of the nutritional values found in the product. These numbers are laboratory tested, and a true representation of what you’re buying so you can see the full breakdown of ingredients. Did you know that ingredients must be listed in order of volume? It's a good hack to quickly see the main ingredients of your cereal.
We found that when it came to breakfast cereal, often the claims on the box tell the best story, and not the whole story (and we can't blame them, after all, they're marketing a product to make it as attractive as it can be so you pop it into your trolley). It's smart to compare macronutrients when reviewing your breakfast cereals including the protein, the carbohydrates, and importantly, the added sugar is also worth a review. Let's show you an example.
Wonder Crunch vs Nesquik Cereal.
From the table, you can see the difference in the protein content (not to mention the reduced sugar, carbohydrates and calories). It’s a significant difference!
✔ Wonder Crunch has over 5 times more protein than Nesquik✔ Wonder Crunch has just 6.68% of the sugar of Nesquik
✔ Wonder Crunch has almost half the carbohydrates of Nesquik
20g Protein | 3.9g Protein |
1g Sugar | 14.95g Sugar |
4g Carbs | 37.2g Carbs |
190 Cal | 192 Cal |
* Based on 50g serving size
The other thing you should be wary of is the serving size. Most cereals will claim a 30-40g per serve, and in our experience this isn’t a typical bowl of breakfast cereal. Having measured Wonder Crunch over and over we found the natural pour to be 50g. Anything less and you would be left feeling hungry.
So when you’re next comparing two products, make sure you take this into account, and also look at the per 100g column of your food for a more complete and accurate comparison.
And there you have it. You’ll now see why we are happy to hand-on-heart claim that Wonder Crunch is a Super High Protein Cereal. With over 40% protein, low sugar and lower calories, we challenge you to find a breakfast cereal better than Wonder Crunch.
So here’s to happy, healthy, breakfast cereal eating!
